yre Acoustics, Inc. is the exclusive distributor for the dps turntable throughout North America. The turntable comes standard with a special Rega-dps tonearm, but may be drilled for a different tonearm upon request. Via further collaboration with Bauer Audio the dps will be driven by an Ayre 3-phase analog power supply. The Ayre power supply features an ultra-low distortion 3-phase analog oscillator feeding three zero-feedback, power amplifiers—based on MX-R circuit topology—to drive each of the dps motor windings.
dps—“der Plattenspieler” (“The Turntable”) is the brainchild of Mr. Willibald Bauer of Munich, Germany. The dps was developed over the course of many years beginning with the design of a unique zero-clearance spindle bearing, followed by a series of dedicated listening tests to fine-tune the structural elements. The dps turntable is stylish, compact, fluidly dynamic and incredibly quiet.
Stable and musical, the dps uses a zero-clearance spindle bearing designed to provide a controlled silent resistance for the high torque detached synchronous 3-phase motor. This resistance protects the stylus from variations in the dynamic drag, ensuring a constant rotational speed. The acrylic platter is supported by a tungsten shaft which rests on the ruby bearing in a viscous oil bath all chosen for their excellent self damping properties.
The foundation of the dps is a constrained layer damping system featuring a multi-layered plinth of laminated wood, heavy damping foil, and cork which rests on three elastomer pucks and a granite base for mechanical isolation and structural integrity. The granite slab acts as an energy sink—dissipating any residual noise from the motors stainless steel housing which rests upon it. The tonearm and main bearing are fitted to an elegant black acrylic top which couples to the cork layer of the plinth for optimal energy dissipation.
