Concepts and comments, second Editon is an engaging reading text for high - beginning to low-intermediate students of English as a foreign or second laguage. The text features 25 thematic units on a variety of topics, ranging from the culture specific to the universal.
Each unit presents a short reading and plentiful activities that focus on predicing. Comprehension, finding main ideas, understan ding details, and making inferences. The text introduces approx-imately 1,000 target vocabulary items-in both the readings and in the word study activities - and guides students in using context clues to discover meaning.
A main feature of this is that the vocabulary items are systematically recycled throughout. Therefore, it is recommended that the inits are studied in the sequence presented in the text, so students are not overwhelmed by new vocabulary items.
The text assumes an understading of basic strutures and vocabulary. All verb tenses except the future perfect are used. Personal pronuns, including the reflexive forms, and such connectors as even though, however, yet, and so are used.
