Powder & particle processing - general overview
Mills and classifiers: we have been supplying process-technological machines and systems for the manufacture of fine powders for over 110 years now. Our machines are employed in numerous applications: for mineral raw materials, in the chemicals industry, for the manufacture of pharmaceutics, cosmetics, foodstuffs and for recycling applications.
Each and every substance poses special demands of the processing system: to meet these demands, we produce tailor-made solutions. Our wide range of different mills and classifier models permits selection of the most suitable machine type for the task in hand under consideration of technical and economical aspects as well as high energy efficiency. Trials in our testing centre on the material to be processed make it possible to lay out and optimise the process long before the actual investment decision is made.
Mills, jet mills
Mills and classifier mills for the dry and wet processing of powders: fine impact mills, jet mills, granulators and shredders, ball mills and agitated media mills, hammer mills and crushers.
Laboratory equipment and quality control
Our laboratory equipment is employed for quality control and for the development of new materials and processes.

Classifiers and air classifiers
We are able to cover a wide range of applications with our many different air classifier and zigzag classifier models. Besides general criteria such as fineness and throughput rate, we also offer wear-protected or pressure-shock-proof designs.
Research and product development
As early as the development stage of new materials, the processability of the substance on a production scale must be considered. The picoline ® offers the researcher mills, classifiers and mixers on a miniature scale, where just a few grams of the substance suffice for a trial.
Compactors, High-Pressure Roller Mills, Flake Crushers and Gear Pelletizers for processing powders. By compacting, granulating, briquetting and crushing, granules, briquettes, flakes or pellets with increased bulk weight are produced.
The quality of the machine control unit and user interface has a great influence on the productivity of a system. We design the control unit and software in close cooperation with process engineers, electrical engineers and software engineers. We also upgrade and modernise old control units.
Containment systems protect operating personnel from highly active or toxic substances. In close cooperation with our customers, we create tailor-made systems which optimally fulfil all requirements in terms of the process itself, ergonomics and GMP directives.
Service and system upgrades

Systems and turnkey systems
We design, build and install tailor-made systems for the production of powders, including the complete process control and process automation elements. The system user receives a dedicated turnkey system from one single source.
Application testing centre
ALPINE's application testing centre offers numerous possibilities to investigate the size reduction and classification of a material. A total of 60 mills and classifiers on a laboratory and production-scale are installed over 4 storeys with a total area of 3.000m². The test results are verified in the test laboratory using analytical equipment. We offer a vast range of machines designed for comminution technology : from crushers for preliminary comminution to agitated media mills for particle sizes in the nano range.

Granulators and shredders
Granulators and shredders for the coarse grinding of preliminary products, the return of rejects to the production process (in-house recycling) and the recycling of industrial materials.
Table roller mills
Table roller mills of the AWM product line with integrated classifier permit the energy-efficient comminution of mineral raw materials at high throughput rates. The machines can also be used for combination grinding and drying.
Ball mills and agitated media mills
Agitated media mills for dry grinding and wet grinding (suspensions, slurries) are employed for the production of ultrafine powders.
Ball mills with diameters up to 4m and grinding drum lengths up to 8m are often used for fine grinding mineral materials such as fillers.

Spiral jet mills and fluidised bed opposed jet mills
Wherever a high purity is demanded of the end product and extremely hard substances need to be comminuted, jet mills are often the mill of choice. Spiral jet mills are also frequently employed in the pharmaceuticals industry because of their ease of cleaning.
Classifiers and air classifiers
Our range of classifiers covers a wide variety of requirements, split up by product fineness and throughput, precision of cut and wear protection. A high energy efficiency brought about by a low pressure drop at the classifying wheel results in low operating costs.
Compacting technology comprises the processes compaction, dry granulation, briquetting,high pressure roller grinding, pelletizing, and crushing. Powdered chemical, pharmaceutical, mineral and metal products can be made into a solid form using this process. The end product is granulate, briquettes, flakes, pellets or spherical pellets with an increased bulk weight. They are dust-free, have a higher density and improved flow and dosing properties.
Particle design and nano technology
Technologies available for the manufacture of functional nanopowders include: grinding, dispersing, agglomeration, coating, mechanofusion, mechanochemical bonding (MCB), shape control, mixing, drying of nanoslurries.
Isolators / containment
Containment and isolator technology protects operating personnel during the processing of highly active (APIs in the pharmaceuticals industry) or toxic substances. The process technology, material transport, cleaning at production end and system ergonomics are all tailored perfectly to one another as early as the R&D stage.
